Essex Steamettes

The Essex Steamettes bring coding, science and technology to a wide range of creative sectors. They learn together, create projects, design and run workshops, invite adult role models to talk to them, enter projects into competitions, give interviews, and inspire girls and others to get involved. They have collaborated with a large number of organisations such as Southend Raspberry Jam, Essex Book Festival, British Science Festival, Mercury Digital Festival, Chelmsford Community Radio, Essex and Southend Libraries, Chelmsford Civic Society, Essex 2020, Open UK, Southend Connected Arts Festival, Coolest Projects, Stand Up for Diversity, Heritage Open Days, Anglia Ruskin University, The Gene Radio Show (girl guiding), Chelmsford Light Festival, Snapping the Stiletto, Thanet Tech, Raspberry Pint, Kids Invent Stuff, Manifesto for Essex and many other public engagement activities. They have worked with international artist Lily Hunter Green over a number of years on Sci Art projects based around saving bees: coding drone acrobatics, 3D design, Pepper’s ghost, light spectrum, virus simulations and physical games. They were Young Researchers for Southend LCEP’s “99 by 19” Meet an Artist activity for Lily’s She Heals project. They have coded lots of games, animations, and a musical interactive glove which used movement, gestures and sound. Check out this Youtube playlist of their 90+ Youtube videos they made:
